A “Veteran’s Day” is someday coming for all the saints!

We are presently in the army of the King of Heaven, as Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 2:1-52 Timothy 2:1-5
2 1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. among: or, by 3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
, we are to “endure hardness as a good soldier.” As believers, we are called to a life of service to the king, and a spiritual battle is raging around us. In the final days of the Great Tribulation, believers previously raptured to glory will return with Christ as members of the heavenly army descending upon Armageddon, where God has assured the victory for righteousness (Revelation 19:14,19Revelation 19:14,19
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
).

As believers, we also have an ongoing battle with our mind (2 Corinthians 10:3-62 Corinthians 10:3-6
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 through God: or, to God 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; imaginations: or, reasonings 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
), the flesh (James 4:1-4James 4:1-4
4 1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? fightings: or, brawlings lusts: or, pleasures 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. lusts: or, pleasures 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
), and the world (1Peter 2:11r 2:11
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
). The scripture tells us that the friendship of the world is at enmity with God, but he has given us spiritual armor: Light (Romans 13:12Romans 13:12
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
), righteousness (2 Corinthians 6:72 Corinthians 6:7
7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
), and the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-18Ephesians 6:11-18
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. flesh...: Gr. blood and flesh spiritual...: or, wicked spirits high: or, heavenly 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. having...: or, having overcome all 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
). Righteousness will prevail, and all of His saints will be victorious (1 John 4:41 John 4:4
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
)!

Let us look forward to that glorious day in heaven when we are rewarded for our service to the King -  a Spiritual “Veteran’s Day!”

Pastor recently began a new evening series entitled “The Seven Laws of the Spiritual Harvest.” Pastor began the new series on November 1 with some comments from Galatians 6:6-10Galatians 6:6-10
6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
, where he introduced the seven laws as gleaned from the scriptures and a recent book he has been studying. As usual, these sermons are available to you for online listening, mp3 download, or via podcast subscription through iTunes or your favorite media player. Feel free to leave a comment on any of the sermons posted online, as the Pastor would be thrilled to hear from you! The entire series is available under the sermons page, or directly via this link.

The Seven Laws of the Spiritual Harvest

  1. We reap much that we did not sow
  2. We reap the same kind as what we sow
  3. We reap in a different season than when we sow
  4. We reap more than we sow
  5. We reap in proportion as we sow
  6. We reap the full harvest of the good only if we persevere; the evil comes to harvest on its own
  7. We cannot do anything about last year’s harvest, but we can about this year’s

We will explore these seven laws over the next two months during our Evening Services.

Series: The Laws of the Harvest
Text:
John 4:31-38John 4:31-38
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

As discussed in our introduction to this series, we are able to glean 7 distinct laws of the spiritual harvest from the scriptures. Our introductory text was Galatians 6:7-10Galatians 6:7-10
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
. This message deals with the First Law of the Harvest: We reap much that we did not sow

Consider the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32Luke 15:11-32
11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. 25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. 26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. 28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. 29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: 30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. 31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. 32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

Give me what is mine!
I want my inheritance!
I have a right to it.  It belongs to me and I want it now!

The prodigal was reaping the benefit of what his father had sown

  • The father may have received an inheritance from his Father
  • The prodigal reaped what he did not sow

We will reap…

  • Some things good and some things bad
  • Some things from men and some things from God
  • We reap physical blessing that we did not sow
    • Matthew 5:45Matthew 5:45
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
    • Acts 17:24-28Acts 17:24-28
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

  • We reap spiritual blessing which we did not sow
    • John 3:16-17John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
    • 1 John 5:9-121 John 5:9-12
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

An example from Billy Sunday – “What must I do to be saved?”

  • Consider John 4:31-38John 4:31-38
    • Let us do what we can while we can.
    • Leave the results to God
    • 1 Corinthians 3:71 Corinthians 3:7
7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Supporting Texts:

  • Luke 15:6-7Luke 15:6-7
6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
  • Luke 15: 9-10Luke 15: 9-10
9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
  • Luke 15:32Luke 15:32
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
